Brisbane, Dec. 21. Operations at Mount Morgan have been resumed. The loss of £25,174 is due chiefly to the reduced value of blister copper. STEEL WORKS CLOSED. Sydney, Dec. 21. Following on the decision of the full Industrial Court that there shall be no reduction in wages, the Steel Works at Newcastle are closing down, and 500 men are being dismissed. STEEL WORKS CLOSED. Sydney, December 19. Following the decision of the Ironworkers Assistants’ Union to adhere to the 44 hour week, the Sydney steel works have been closed, rendering idle 200 workers. SEAMEN RELEASED FROM GAOL. Sydney, December 19. After serving their sentence in the Maitland gaol, the crew of the Koromiko were released and paid off. THE KENMORE TRAGEDY. Sydney, December 19. At the inquest’on the Kenmore Mental Hospital tragedy a verdict of murder was returned against Sindell, who was committed for trial. TEACHERS IN DEFENCE. Sydney, December 20. The annual conference of the School Teachers’ Federation decided to register under the Federal Arbitration Act for defensive purposes, in the event of the Salaries Committees appointed under the recent State Public Service Act not giving satisfaction. EMBARGO OX’CATTLE. Melbourne, December 20. Mr. Hughes says that Britain has made an invidious distinction in lifting the embargo on Canadian cattle and not on Australian, which are already severely handicapped by their remoteness from British markets. The action was incompatible with Imperial relations, and he had made representations to the British Government on the matter.
