HILLSBOROUGH SCHOOL.
PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. CONCERT BY CHILDREN. The end of the school year was marked at Hillsborough on Tuesday by a concert by the children and the presentation of prizes. The hall was taxed to its utmost capacity to accommodate ail those who attended. The concert programme was arranged by the teachers (Misses F. O’Brien and G. Mouatt) and was thoroughly enjoyed. Much care and thought had dently been put into its presentation, the children’s dresses and the high quality of all the items being special features. The programme opened with a pianoforte solo by Mary Cliff, and Jim Hawkings followed by the singing of “The Wooden Militree” by 18 animated dolls. A recitation by the primer class and a parody entitled “Six Little Boys from School” followed, whilst Mies Del Thompson (Hawera) became a distinct favorite in a Russian mazurka. “Rackety Coo,” was sung by Miss Pearl Sampson and two little pigeons (Lottie Sampson and Winnie Coward), > whilst an amusing interlude was provided by Corporal Muggins (Jim Hawkings) and his raw recruits. An item of outstanding merit was the impersonation of “Burlington Bertie from Bow” by little Miss Winnie Coward', who is only seven years oTd. A chorus and dance, “Mammy’s Arms,” and a ribbon dance by the junior pupils were pleasing numbers. ‘"Three Green Bonnett?” was sung by Winnie Coward, Lottie Sampson and Gwyneth Thompson, whilst a further success was scored by Del Thompson in “Dance de Fascination.” Other effective numbers were recitations by standard 1 and 2 pupils, “Tally Ho,” in which Jim Hawkings, Henry Smpllie, and Sid. /Sampson took the part of huntsmen, a recitation by Henry Smellie, and violin solo by Norman Parker, whilst a colorful concerted number, “By the I Gay Seaside,” in which the whole school took part, made the grand finale. That the programme was appreciated was indicated by the spontaneous applause which greeted every item. THE PRIZE LIST. In the unavoidable absence of both Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., and Mr. A. Lees (chairman of the Education Board), from whom apologies were received, Mr. H. C. Sampson (chairman of the school committee) presented the prizes.
