REVIVAL OF INDUSTRY.

MEANS TO PROMOTE IT. SUGGESTIONS IN ENGLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 19, 8.55 p.m. London, Dec. 18. The Federation of British Industries has sent a manifesto to Mr. Bonar Law suggesting that the Government could assist in the restoration of trade by the following means: —The abolition of the corporation profits tax; a substantial reduction in income tax; some remission or indirect taxation: an immediate reduction of Government expenditure; reconsideration of the Geddes Committee's .recommendation; immediate inquiry into the whole question of education, with a view to a reduction in administration costs; abandonment without delay of competition by Government, institutions against private traders; and the utmost attention should be given to the development of inter-imperial trade, which is so important. The federation proposes shortly to make separate representations for energetic action before foreign post-war tariffs become crystallised. They advocate improved postal facilities, an unrestricted halfpenny printed paper rate, and all Governmental purchase to give maximum employment to British labor.
