THE HIGH SCHOOLS.
MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD.
The New Plymouth High Schools Board met last night. Present: Messrs, J. S. Fox (chairman), L. A. Nolan, L. C. Sladden, H. Trimble, F. W. Atkinson, S. G. Smith, MJ*., and Dr. E. F. Fookea. The re appointment of Mr. V. Dutt as commercial instructor to the girls' school was approved by the department as long as it was not deemed advisable to employ a teacher permanently in that capacity. Tenders for boarding house supplies, as recommended by the supplies committee, were accepted. The successful tenderers were Mr. Gallagher, baker; City Meat Company, butchers; and Messrs. C. Canter and 'Son, grocers. The action of the staff committee in accepting Mr. R. Marks’ resignation was confirmed. Mr. T. M. McDonald has been appointed to the “D* grade position, but owing to the successful applicant for the “C” grade position de- / elining his appointment it was decided to re-advertise the vacancy. The question of unauthorised boys % wearing the school uniform was again * before the board. Mr. Smith stated that next year it was the intention of the public schools in New Plymouth to adopt uniforms of their own, so that there would be no possibility of confusion arising between scholars. Mr. Atkinson remarked that this was a move in the right direction, but did not affect boys outside the town who freely wore the uniform. Members suggested that a more distinctive cap might be obtained and sold only to High School pupils. The matter was finally left to the secretary and the principal.
