STRATFORD TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.
PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY. The Stratford Technical High School’s prizegiving ceremony was held in the Town Hall on Thursday. Mr. H. Trimble, chairman of the Board of Governors, presided. The headmaster’s report was as follows: I feel sure that the school can be congratulated on a year of excellent work and progress. -Despite the many difficulties involved in beginning a school in a new building with limited equipment, I feel sure that much good work has been achieved, and the results of the year’s work will be durable. I am pleased to say that, aided by the very loyal support of the staff, and of the school committee, coupled with the entnusiastic cooperation of the business men of Stratford, a great deal has been done to alter the whole surroundings of the school, and make it possible to carry on real school activities. I wish to express the great indebtness of the school to those gentlemen who contributed so much toward raising the £BOO for putting the grounds of the school into proper order. The staff of the school at the beginning of the year was the one from that of a district high school. As the work of a technical high school is somewhat different from that of a district high school, it has been found necessary to modify the staff. It is essential that, there should be on the staff of this sahool a permanent member who is able to give attention to the agricultural science and dairy science work. Again, in order that the science work on the girls' side be done efficiently, it is necessary, to have a fully qualified woman member nf the staff to take home science and the co-related science work on the girls’ side. This matter has been very carefully considered by the department, with the result that the staff of the school has been selected. The change has heen accompanied with a certain amount of regret, because the services of some members who have served the school loyally and well in the past, are no longer to be retained. The permanent staff of the school has already been appointed, and is so designed that the school I will have every opportunity of doing the good i work done in the past, and also an oppor- ; tunity of building up a strong science side which ought to make the school one of the leading science schools in the Dominion. Owing to the yet Incomplete nature of the playing fields, the games this year have been conducted with considerable difficulty. In spite of this the results of the matches have been very pleasing indeed. The athletes of the school have visited several sports meetings held throughout the district, and have heen successful in carrying off a fair share of the prizes. As it is • Intended to have a snorts meeting early next year it was not thought necessary to arrange one this term. The activities of the cadet corps have been increased by the establishment of a rifle rangton the school grounds. The interest in the shooting is very great Indeed, as will be evidenced by the fact, that 29 of the hoys have obtained marksmen’s badges this year: 2(1 have qualified as efficient rifle shots and out of the total number In the corps only 4 have failed. The prizes won during the year were then presented by Sir Walter Camcross, as follows PRIZE LIST. Form Ga.—English• G. McMillan. Languages : Alice M. Copping. Mathematics t G McMillan.
