PLEA FOR THE POOR.
LADY ASTOR AROUSES HOSTILITY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —CopyrightReceived Dec. 17, 5 5 p.m. London, Dec. 15. At a meeting of the Unionist Association, Lady Astor, M.P., was howled down while supporting a resolution urging a campaign against Socialist propaganda. She declared the first antidote was housing, and she said that what was wrong with the Conservatives was that they did not realise that while they occupied two or more houses they failed to regard the position of those who lived in two rooms. How could they blame some school teachers teaching Socialism, when they did not pay teachers living wages? When continuous interruption ensued, Lady Astor retorted: “You’re worse than the Labor Party. It is uncomfortable to be howled down at one’s own party meet-ing.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
