KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL.

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The prize-giving ceremony in connection with St. Mary's Kindergarten School, New Plymouth, which is conducted by Mrs. Stewart Russell, took place on Thursday in the presence of parents, friends and relatives of the little pupils. An enjoyable programme was presented in which the following tiny lots took place: Shirley Lake, Jeanne Blackley, Tony Nicholson, Marjorie Preece. Marjorie Bloxam, Joan Cress well, and Verna Lawrey, whilst the whole class contributed an exhibition of drill and an action song. A playlet followed, the children being appropriately dressed to suit their parts. This entertainment provided those present with much enjoyment. Mrs. Russell then read her report, which stated the school had opened in February 1 with seven pupils, but the roll had since increased to 20. Shirley Lake and Marjorie Bloxam had not been absent once during the year. In November a junior branch of the Red Cross Society had been formed, and the children had made golliwogs for Christmas presents for the little patients in the local public hospital. The sum of 3s 8d had been collected in I pennies and sent to the Red Cross So-* | ciety. Thanks were due to the mothers for the many kind notes she had received commending her work among the children. After some parents and friends had expressed gratitude for the way the children were cared for at the school special prizes were awarded to Shirley Lake and Marjorie Bloxam for unbroken attendance, while all the other children received gift books. During the proceedings a collectionbox was opened, and it was found it contained 12s 6Jd subscribed in pennies 'by the children in aid of the Dr. Barnardo Homes. Mesdames Fredric and Allen Brodie assisted with the music during the entertainment. At the end of this gathering Jeanne Blackley and Verna Law» rey presented Mrs. Russell with a bouquet and a box of handkerchiefs and wished her a merry Christmas.
