LEVY ON WATERSIDERS.

DECLARED TO BE INVALID. By Telesronh.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 12. An important indication regarding the decision in the recent case of Robert Gould and others against the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union was given at the Supreme Court this morning by Air. Justice Hosking. The case related mainly to striking a levy of £1 on members .by the union, as recommended by the annual conference, of the Federation of Labor in 1921. During the hearing it was stated by counsel for the plaintiff’s that the levy was for the purpose of establishing a strike fund.

This morning, in chambers, Air. Justice Hosking intimated that when he gave his decision on the points reserved he would rule that the levy in question was invalid and he would deal fully with the consequences of that decision.
