THE PORT.
RETURNS FOR LAST MONTH. RECORD TONNAGE OF VESSELS. For the last four-weekly period the number of vessels berthing at the port of New Plymouth was 17, compared with 20 for the corresponding period of the previous year. While there is a decrease of three in the number of vessels it is satisfactory to note that whereas during the 1921 period the number of overseas vessels trading at Moturoa was two, during the last four weekly period the number of overseas liners was six. The total tonnage of the *l7 vessels for the last period was 49,145 tons, compared with 32,290 for the corresponding period of 1921. This total of 49,145 tons is a record for any four-weekly period in the history of the port. The imports for the period under review amounted to 9121 tons, and the exports 3341 tons, making a total of 12,462 tons of cargo handled. For the corresponding four weeks of last year the imports amounted to 5535 tons, and the exports to 3674, or a total of 9209 tons.
