NEW MOTOR-’BUS.
FOR NEW PLYMOUTH—HE KUITI TRAFFIC. Great strides have been made in recent years in the motor ’bus development, and to-day few towns are better served by motor ’buses than New Plymouth, whence ear services radiate in practically every direction. Mr. Charles Johnston, in anticipation of the iilip to traffic that will follow the completion of the Awakino, Valley road, has just added to his fleet of ’buses a fine new White ’bus that must Ibe the last word in motor vehicles of that type. It is almost as big and roomy as a railway carriage, and rides almost as easily. It is fitted with pneumatic tyres with dual tyres on the rear wheels, making for stability and comfortable running, whilst it is built on a Jow frame to enable the loading height to be kept as nearly as possible to the ground. The chassis is long, the wheel bars being 198 inches, and the springing is a special feature. The engine is 50 h.p., and the Sbus can without any stress or effort travel up to 35 miles an hour. Yesterday some members of the Taranaki Chamber of Commence' were the guests of the proprietor 'on., a spin to Waitara and back, the 20 odd miles being covered well under the hour, and the journey as comfortable as possible. The seating capacity ie 30, and the body has been 'built to ensure the greatest degree of comfort for passengers., 'The ’bus is to be used on the main run from New Plymouth to Uruti, where it will connect with another ’bus to Awakino, thence on to Te Kuiti. It is to be hoped the enterprise of Mr. Johnston in putting on such a fine and up-to-date ’bus will be rewarded with the success it deserves.
