CRICKET.
THIS WEEK’S MATCHES. The change of half-holiday on account of the general election has interfered with the cricket fixtures, which will have to stand down for this week. There are some matches to play, however, in the first round, which were missed for various reasons, and an effort will be made to get some of these off. The match between Old Boys and New Plymouth, drawn for October 28, was postponed on account of the Boys’ High School sports, and this match will be played on Saturday, and in all probability the match between Inglewood and High School will also be played on Saturday, thus completing the first round of these teams before the school vacation. The remaining •matches of the first round will be played on Saturday, December 16. HOLIDAY MATCHES. A fair amount of cricket has been arranged by the association for the holiday season, several matcher, bieng in view for New Plymouth. The first fixture is a visit by a representative team to Wanganui on December 20 and 21, to play a match there for the Hawke Cup. A visit is to be made by an Auckland team for a match here, probably about December 23. The Hawera Wednesday Cricket Association is sending a team to New Plymouth to play here on December 26, and a North v. South Taranaki match will be played at Hawera on January 1 and 2. There is also a probability of a Wellington team visiting New Plymouth in February. In addition to the above matches, there is the match between McLaren’s English eleven and a team representing the West Coast minor associations, at Wanganui, commencing Wednesday, December 13, though recent cablegrams indicate that this match may have to be postponed owing to the shipping hold-up in Australia preventing the sailing of the Englishmen.
