THE TOURIST TRAFFIC.
PREPARATIONS TO MEET IT. The institution of a tri-weekly motor service between New Plymouth and Te Kuiti has occasioned a good deal of interest in the district. The New Plymouth Tourist and Expansion League are of opinion that this route to and from Auckland Is destined to -become one of the most popular in New Zealand, offering as it does trips up the beautiful Mokau river, views of the glorious bush over Mt. Messenger, and, next year, through the bush gracing the valley of the Awakino, as well gs ever changing scenery all the way from Waitara to Te Kuiti, thence a visit to the Waitomo caves, whilst there is also the incomparable scenery and healthgiving air of Mt. Egmont. The, League has written to the Mayor of Te Kuiti, suggesting that, if that town has pot one already, to establish a tourist bureau there, to-operate with the New Plymouth organisation, the League pointing out that Te Kuiti must become in the near future the distributing centre of the tourist traffic for the North Island. The League has also written to the chairman of the Mokau Harbor Board, suggesting that it too should establish a tourist bureau there to work in conjunction with New Plymouth and Te •Kuiti.
It will be remembered that Mr. Bayfield, chief Government tourist agent, •when in the district recently, promised that the Government bureaux would do all they could to push this fine route as soon as the lower Awakino road was opened, or, rather, as soon as there was direct communication between New Plymouth and Te Kuiti, so that now the service has been started an effort will be made to divert the through tourist traffic hither.
