SEAMEN’S STRIKE.

NEW PHASE DEVELOPS.

ULIMAROA HELD UP.

CRICKETERS DELAYED. By Telegraph.—Press A&sd. —Copyright. Received Dec. 3, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Dec. 2. The shipping trouble, which wag previously confined to the Union Company, entered a new phase to-day so far as New Zealand is concerned, the Huddart. ’irker Company’s Ulimaroa, scheduka to leave at noon, being held up. It is stated the trouble arose through the discharge of six seamen at the instigation of the engineers, who regarded the men as unsuitable. The Seamen’s Union declined to allow other men to fill the vacancies. Conferences between representatives of the owners, the engineers and the seamen have proved abortive so far. Among the large number of passengers was MacLaren’s cricket team. Received Dec. 4. 12.35 a.m. Sydney, Dec. 3.

The Ulimaroa’*? passengers have left the ship. The intervention of Sunday prevented giving the crew the necessary twenty-four hours’ notice, which, it is understood, was the company's intention.

Developments arc expected to-morrow. The steamer had everything in readiness to depart, for sea when the tie-up occurred. THE MAKURA’S DEPARTURE. ■Sydney, Dec. 2. Passengers numbering 409 wore conveyed to the Makura. by ferries, also a large consignment of mails. The departure was effected without a hitch. The company has not so far discussed the question of manning other idle steamers with volunteer labor.
