RACING FIXTURES. Dec. 2—Feilding J.C. Spring. Dec. 2 —Methven R.C. Annual. Dec. 9, 11—Woodville J.C. Summer. Dec. 26, 27—Taranaki J.C. Christimas. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”l) Concluding day at Feilding. Taranaki entries are due on Monday. Rational won the Feilding Stakes in hollow style. Woden should be “hard” in the Cheltenham Hurdles to-day. Muraahi, “the racecourse certainty,’’ was never sighted in the St. Andrew’s Handicap. Refrigeration was an odds-on order on Thursday, and never looked like getting beaten. Dainty Step ran n. sterling race in the Flying at Fielding, and should have followers to-day. Aeriform was the only one capable of making Refrigeration gallop in the Trial Plate, and on that form looks like starting at a Gloaming price in the _Novice Stakes to-day. Whizz Bang is all to pieces, as his wretched form at Levin, Ashhurst and Feilding proves. it dea't hia will
All Palmerston was on Passenger in the Waituna Hurdles on Thursday, and nicely ridden by A. McDonald, he just won, A rise of lllbs. may stop him to-day. Sunart ran a sterling race in the St. Andrew's Handicap, and should strip a much fitter house to-day. Zircon may be his toughest opponent. Bangitikei sports are getting a steady Income from the despised Projector, and have hopes of more at Woodville next week. At Ashhurst he won from end to end, but nt Feilding he was not so lucky at the start, but he came along and won nicely at. the finish. Evidently L. A. Pine’s style of riding suits Projector. As stated before, Merry Day had only to be better ridden to have won either the Horowhenua or Ashhurst Cups. On Thursday she was kept in a handy position all the way, and scored decisively. Snatcher was sent out favorite for the Kowhni Hack Handicap at Feilding, but after flattering his admirers in the early stages, dropped right out of the picture. Possibly he has been asked to do too much lately. Cochineal ran well on Thursday under unfavorable circumstances, bleeding badly during the race. Nevertheless she finished fourth. The All Red mare has cost her connections a lot of money lately. If Waipatu is reserved for the Nikau Hnnoieap to-day he will carry big money. The son of California appeared to he out of his class In the TVilding Stakes, but with 9st. up, he ran a great race, finishing within half a length of The Hawk, who was third. Waipatu Is a hack worth following. Rational revelled In the sticky going al Feilding on Thursday, and, taking the lead at. the end of a furlong, showed a clean pair of heels to the opposition. Rational looks "the goods’’ again to-day, hut his Taranaki supporters need not expert such a good dividend this time. The Rongotea Hack Handicap will take some picking to-day. The distance will trouble some of the runners, hut. Pleasure stays well, and Kilhlrd is another that should see it out. Helen Rufus is bad nt the barrier, and was left standing on Thursday, taking no part In the Kiwitea Welter. Bhe has only got to get awny with them to show up In the Empire Welter, though "recovery” bettors may prefer the chances of Eerie and Kula. On a heavy track Kail is not much good beyond a mile and a half, but he is a topnotcher over that distance, and should not he "dropped” for his failure at Feilding. Mattock was another that could not find his feet in the mud, and he let his party down badly. Rapine was rightly made favorite in the sprint at Feilding. and won like the good horse that he is. Nursing Sister was soon out In front, with the favorite well back, but in the straight Rapine came along in great Style, and won like a champion. Mark Time was the only withdrawal from the St. Andrew’s Handicap, and Muraahi was sorted out as "the pea," with Sunart. Bitters, Rouen. Merry Day. Eerie, Pnoanui. Trespass. Maloha, and Fera backed in that order. Fern led past the stand from Merry Day. Sunart, Eerie, Rouen and Muraahi, but along the back Bitters ran into fourth place. Merry Day ran up to Fera as they came Into the straight, and Sunart. and Bitters were also handy. In the run home Merry Dav outstayed Fera, and won well, with Sunart close up third, followed by Bitters and Rouen. Muraahi’s form was most disappointing.
Postponements are no good to any racing clubs, but the Feilding .7.0. made a bad blunder when they postponed the opening day just because there had been heavy rain In the early morning. The decision was made known shortly after 9 a.m., and even then the weather appeared to be clearing. It was given out that there would be no racing until Saturday and Monday, and hundreds of disgusted sports (Including a number from Taranaki) returned home. Evidently our Tending friends overlooked the fact that the lilies of Racing only allow a meeting to he postponed from day to day, for after advertising in the Rangitikei Advocate that a three days’ postponement had been decided upon, they switched found and announced that the meeting would open on Thursday. Wednesday turned out a fine dav. and the track, though heavy; was in as good condition then as on the following day. The whole thing was unfortunate, but probably they act/1, ns they thought, for the best, deciding early on a postponement so ns to stop patrons earning by car from Wanganui, Marton, and other nearby towns.
