INFLUENCE OF DIRECT SHIPPING* BIG INCREASE SHOWN. The coming of overseas Vessels with direct cargo for New Plymouth is reflected in the Cuetoms returns for the month ended yesterday, when the te venue yielded was more than double that for the corresponding mouth of last year. Latit month’s revenue total-* led £BlOB Is tid, which is the best re--urn since April, 1921, W’hile the average month yield io about £ 5000. Thk revenue is derived solely from the port of New Plymouth as since June, 1921, the Patee returns have been accounted for separately. The record month was May, 1920, when, together with Patea. the revenue returned was £13,625. An analysis of last month’s returns reveals that £2612 was derived from the Port Denison (with English cargo), £1029 from the Otaki (with New York cargo), and £622 from the Waihexno (with Pacific Coast cargo).
