NEW PRODUCTION RECORDS. FRIESIAN COW’S PERFORMANCE. New Australian records for both milk and butter-fat have been put up by the South Australian Friesian cow Woodcrest Maid. In 365 days this cow, which ifl owned by Mr. F. FL Butterfield, yielded 26,644 lb milk and 986.21 Ih butterfat, equal to 1188.26 lb butter. Three days after completing her test she calved again, so that sire carried her calf for nine months of her lactation period, which makes her performance all the more remarkable.
The Australian butter record for 365 days previously stood to the credit of the DarbaJata milking Shorthorn, Melba XV., with 1150 lb. The milk record was held by the Friesian, Woodcrest Johanna Tehee, formerly owned by Mr. Eric Lloyd Jones, and whose production for 365 days was 25,628 lb milk and 867 lb fat, equal to 1044 lb butter. This champion was nine years three months old when she started that test. She has recently calved again, six months after completing her test, and is showing extraordinary development of the milk vessels. Hex’ owner, Mr. A. C. Lamond, of Nowra, ifl hopeful that she will eclipse her existing record. It is worthy of mention that the record of Alcarta Clothilda Pietje, owned by Mr. Marx, Mangatoki, is 1145 lb of butter-fat in 365 days. The record stands for the world, though Mr. Wilbur, the American Consul, whilst in Stratford this week, ealimed that the ' record had been exceeded in America in 'two or three instances.
