TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK. GLEESON V. WHITAKER. The Taranaki Boxing Association arc to be congratulated on the manner in which they attempt to provide good bouts for the public. They have been fortunate in matching Les. Gleeson against Cyril Whitaker, the bout Jo be over 15 rounds, in the Coronation Had, New Plymouth, on Thursday, November ad. Gleeson has an international reputation and was welter-weight champion of Australia in the years 1913, 1914 and 1915, but since then he lias built up considerably and has now to fight in heavy-weight class. His record is one which any fighter might feel proud of, for he has fought, in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America. His last contest took place against John Murray, in Vancouver, and this contest he won m the 10th round. Cyril Whittaker, his opponent, late of Wellington, but now of New Plymouth, needs no introduction. He is one or the foremost of New Zealand heavy-weights, and in this town alone he has victories over such doughty opponents as Jack Heeney >’ n Tooley.
