TARANAKI SEAT. MR. SMITH’S CAMPAIGN. (Contributed.) Mr. S. G. Smith addressed a record meeting of electors at Albert Road on Friday night. The chair was taken by Mr. A. H. Jordan, who. in introducing the candidate, said that Mr. Smith had been an energetic and hard-working member, particularly in regard to educational matters. A motion of thanks and no confidence, proposed by Mr. Hall, lapsed for the want of a seconder. A vote of thanks to Mr. Smith for his excellent address, and continued confidence in him, was carried with one dissentient voice, on the motion of Mr. Adams, seconded by Mr. Molloy. At Tarurutangi, on Saturday night, Mr. Smith hud an audience of some 40 electors, Mr. G. Longstaff being voted to the chair. Mr. Smith received a most attentive and sympathetic hearing, and at the conclusion Mr. Longstaff proj jsed a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Smith for his able address, remarking that- at times it was very convincing and forcible, but said that the meeting would no doubt agree with him that, the question of confidence could safely be left to the ballot-box. This was carried by the hearty acclamation of the whole assemblage. MR. MASTERS AT KAIMIRO. (Contributed.) Mr. Masters met his constituents at Kair.iiro on Friday night. Mr. Shoemark was : appointed chairman, and presided over an attendance of 65 people, this being a record attendance for a political meeting in the district. In introducing Mr. Masters to the audience, the chairman said Mr. Masters was not merely a representative of Strafford, but was known from one end of the Dominion to the other as a fearless and constructive politician. The meeting throughout was attentive, and no questions being forthcoming, Mr. Patterson moved that the electors of Kaim ro thank Mr. Masters for his address and express tho fullest confidence in him as member for Stratford, and would again assist in returning him at. the forthcoming election. This was seconded by Mr. Gilbert and carried with cheers and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” In the report of Mr. Hawken’s meeting at Rahotu, it was stated that a vote of thanks and confidence was passed. We are requested to state this is not correct, the vote, being of thanks only, no other motion being proposed.
