OVERDUE SCHOONER.
SIGHTED IN COOK STRAIT. MEETING HEAVY WEATHER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. IS. The captain of the steamer Kapuni reporta that while en route from Patea to Wellington, at 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday, he sighted a fore and aft schooner running through Cook Strait on a southerly course. At 5 p.m. the Kapuni was off Sinclair Head. The schooner, which is thought to be the missing Coronation, which left on Tuesday with mails for Nelson, wae six miles off land. There was a very heavy sea running and a moderate gale blowing. At 6 p.m. the Kapuni entered the Heads, and last saw the schooner standing out to the southward. The schooner appeared to be making very heavy weather, but did not show any signs of distress. The opinion is expressed that the schooner was trying to make Wellington. It is also stated that the Kohi sighted the Coronation off Jackson Head on Wednesday morning. NOT REPORTED YET. Wellington, Last Night. There is no news yet of the whereabouts of the auxiliary schooner Coronation, which is making a. protracted trip from Wellington to Nelson. Tne weather has been very boisterous in Cook Straits during the week, and it is thought the schooner has been driven out of'her course. Captain Gibson, of the steamer Kapuni, sighted a vessel which it was thought might have been the Coronation. She was running south before the gale in the, Strait, and was apparently all well. The Coronation’s crew comprises J. Barr (captain), N. Tremewan (engineer), J. Reardon and T. Keegan (A.B.’s), and J. Ryan (ordinary seaman).
