A NEW CHURCH.

ST. MARK'S, PUNIHO—WARE A. FOUNDATION STONE TO-DAY. This afternoon Dr. A. W. Averill, Bishop of Auckland, will lay the foundation stone of the new church which is being erected for the parish of Puniho—-Warea. The church has been dedicated to St. Mark and will be erected on a commanding position, with the cast end facing the road, about a mile and a half on the New Plymouth side of Warea. Although not designed in the form of a cross, the new church will follow in nearly all other respects the usual form of Anglican church architecture. The foundations are of concrete, the superstructure being of rimu, with a gabled roof surmounted by crosses at either end. Provision has been made in the design for a porch and baptistry at the west end, while the nave and chancel will be connected by a chancel arch. The vestry opens off from the chancel on the south side and the nave has been designed to seat a congregation of GO. The windows are to be painted Gothic in design, while provision has been made for the installation of the pulpit, lectern, organ, and the Holy tabic in their appointed places. The foundation -stone bears the inscription: “This stone was laid by the Rt. Revd. A. W. Averill, Bishop of Auckland, November 18, 1922.” The church was designed by Mr. W. N. Stephenson, architect, of New Plymouth, and the contract has been let to Mr. W. E. Willis, of Okato. It should be completed in about fourteen weeks.
