PERSONAL.
Mr. W. R. Miller, representing Sharland and Co., who has recently recovered from an illness, is leaving for Rotorua on an extended holiday. A (London cablegram says Sir John Bland-Sutton, a distinguished London surgeon, performed a serious operation on Mr. Rudyard Kipling, whose condition is as satisfactory as possible. Mr. Alex Reid, caretaker of the Egmont show grounds, died in hospital yesterday morning. Mr. Reid became ill on Tuesday night and an operation was performed on Wednesday, after which he seemed to be making good progress, but yesterday morning he suddenly collapsed. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. The late Mr. Reid was much respected and was regarded by the A. and P. Association as a very valuable officer. A London message says that Miss Genevieve Ward, the actress, left £8876 net. She bequeaths £5OOO and her furniture to her maid, various pictures and testimonials to the National Gallery, Royal Academy of Music, the Green Room Club, the museum at Stratford-on-Avon, and a portrait, of herself as Ninou de Lendos, together with a testimonial and album received in connection with her performance of the Greek play “The Melbourne,” to the Garrick Club.
