FIRE AT FITZROY.
A DWELLING DAMAGED. A fire damaged two rooms of a sixroomed residence in Clemow Road, Fitzroy, early this morning. The house is occupied by Mr. Percy Johnson, and is owned by Mr. W. Jones, of Stratford. The only occupants were Mrs. Johnson and her son, who was sleeping in a detached room, and Mrs. Johnson was awakened shortly before one o’clock by smoke pouring into her bedroom. The smoke was very thick, and Mrs. Johnson had to make a hurried exit througn a window. The alarm was given to the brigade by telephone from the nearby residence of Mr. Russell, and tho firemen were quickly, on the scene. The flames were burning fiercely in two rooms, and the firemen were successful in confining the outbreak to this part of the, house. These rooms appeared to have been completely gutted, but the adjoining apartments were only scorched. The furniture in the rooms damaged appeared to he destroyed. It is understood the house was insured in the State Office for £250 and there was - a policy on the furniture in the Star and Eagle Office.
