BOXING.

TOURNAMENT AT STRATFORD. SOME INTERESTING BOUTS. The boxing tournament at Stratford last night attracted a good crowd to the Town Hall, and proved an outstanding success. Tl»e class of boxing was excellent, and the management left little to be desired. Credit is due to the promoters, and especially to Mr. D. P. Beere, the secretary, and Mr. A. Nelson. Mr. W. Foley capably refereed, and Mr. P. Skoglund and Mr. N. Cook acted as judges. The bouts were all of four two-minute rounds, with the exception of the heavy-weight contest, which was of six rounds. Details: Fly-weight.—A. Collins, 7.9 (Stratford), beat W. Mancer, 7.12 (Eltham), on points. Feather-weight.—R. Morgan, 8.9 (Eltham), after a close bout with E. Duddlng, 8.11 (Stratford), secured the honor. Bantam-weight.—A. Brooking, 8.2 (Stratford), beat C. Foote, 8.8y 2 (Eltham), making most of the fighting. Feather-weight.—G. Blennedhasett, 8.9 (Stratford), could not be separated from D. Duddlng, 8.1 (Stratford), in the first four rounds, but in a fifth one-minute round Blennerhasett was given the verdict. Light-weight.—A. Duggan, 10.7 (Hawera), beat H. McAsey, 10.0 (Lepperton), on points, f Feather-weight.—A. Humphries, 9.5 (Eltham), fought an exhibition bout with D. McWhirter, 9.7 (Hawera), Humphries gaining the verdict in the second round. Light-weight.—H. Pearce, 10.13 (Eltham), fought a scjentlfie and willing fpur rounds witlr Con. Coulton, 10.7 (Strathmore), and won by a bare margin. Heavy-weight.—Giving away considerable weight to L. Pepperell, 13.5 (Normanby), A. E. Mills, 12’.3 (Riverlea), put up a great fight and won the tfout. The fight was clean and scientific, and the margin of the win was only a small one. At the conclusion a medal for the most scientific boxer was presented to A. Collins by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan).
