SUPREME COURT.
ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 9. Benjamin Jones, coal-dealer, Petone, was charged in the Supreme Court with having attempted to murder Constable Morrison. On August 25, when Morrison endeavored to execute a distress warrant, Jones fired four shots at him with a revolver. He pleaded not guilty. The Crown Prosecutor contended that the act was premeditated, as the constable had called several times and asked Jones to settle the account for the amount of £3. 19s 6d. CHRISTCHURCH SENTENCES. Christchurch, Nov. 9. Among the sentences inflicted in the Supreme Court were those of W. A. D. Duncan, an assisted immigrant five months in the country, to a year's hard labor for breaking and entering and theft; E. W. Glenn, on a similar charge, was sentenced to three years’ Imprisonment; C. E. Hobbs, for theft, was admitted to three years’ probat ; on; F. Moreton, for indecent assau ll i was sentenced to a Year’s hard labor.
