The Herald states that Yacamunda was the first to show out, followed by Whittier, pulling hard, with Speciality and Prince Charles last. The Cypher was wedged on the rails well to the back, but improved his position at the first turn. Basclla stole a march on the field at the abattoirs, and the crowd was to conjure visions of a runaway victor.®Molyneaux chased him, Whittier meanwhile capitulating as the result of excessive pulling. King Ingoda was noticed for the first tiune approaching the straight, -;nd The Cypher was also coming on the outside of the field from the rails. Paratoo led into the straight, but King Ingoda and The Cypher assumed command and commenced a desperate struggle. Both were locked at the distance, and it was anybody’s race at a hundred yards from the post. The Cypher was slightly in front at fifty yards, but in the last three strides King Ingoda. came again and won by a short neck. Mufti emerged from the field In the last furlong and ran through the leaders to third place. | The Telegraph states Yacamunda led from the straight. Basella was in front at the .seven furlongs post, hut was displaced by Molyncaux, who led Paratoo into the straight. For "a moment the latter looked a winner, hut King Ingoda shot to the front, with his naune on all lips. The Cypher, coming fast on the outside, seemed a certainty at the distance, hut honors were easy at the half-distance. The horses flashed past the post half a neck in King Ingoda's favour. The Cypher was not disgraced, but was unfortunate to lose after such a gallant fight. As a consequence the handicappers will hold him in great respect in future. Mufti finished with great determination. She was badly placed at the mile post through lack of pace.
