The Cook—Smith fight was willing and dogged up tp the fifteenth round, when Cook retired owing to a dislocated thumb. Cook from the first showed easily the best form since his arrival. He was Aggressor for ten rounds but after the tenth Smith began to gain, though Cook's boxing was still good. The spirited pace did not slacken. The great audience, unaware of the accident, was amazed when Cook retired, though apparently still leading on points. It was subsequently explained that Cook’s dislocated thumb gave way in the fourth round* but he pluckily continued. TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Taranaki Boxing Association was hold last night. Present: Messrs. E. Jackson (in the chair), W. N. Stephenson, M. D. Stagpoole, W. Yardley, W. Richards, A. Baker, P. E. Stainton, W. Whitaker. N. B. Howell, J. Abbott, Jas. Garcia, and C. H. Wynyard (secretary). The match committee reported that they had been able to arrange a match between Les. Gleeson (of Australia) and W. Wintaker. The bom was definitely fixed for November 30 in the Empire Theatre. Falling the Scott-McAsey match not being available as a preliminary, it was resolved to put on four special six-round amateur bouts as preliminaries.
