ALLEGED INCITING.
UNION OFFICIAL CHARGED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 6. In the Police Court, the Inspector of 1 Awards sought to recover a penalty of £lO against T. F. Anderson, ’branch secretary of the Seamen s Union, on a charge that on September 26 he aided, or incited a strike of firemen and greasers of the steamer Arahura at landCaptain Dryden gave evidence that Anderson informed him the crew would not sail if the men shipped for the Baden Powell were passengers. Witness did not see Anderson get the men ashore. Witness understood the reason given was that the Baden Powell men were working under union rates. Air. Rudd, acting manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, gave corroborative evidence. ■At this atage the case was adjourned owing to defendant being absent at the conference in Wellington. The inspector also proceeded against eleven stokers charged with being parties to the strike. Some evidence in support was given, and the case was adjourned till Wednesday at the request; of defendants’ counsel.
