X SBi * f'l j j ? I iu'u-. ?. INCREASE CROP PRODUCT lON WITH LIME. 4 Y YTTHERE a rational system of liming is followed under good methods of ❖ farm practice, lime proves one of the important links of benefit to- *•* ward soil improvement, and increased yields of pasture and of crop proX duction will inevitably follow its use. *t* THE ACTIONS OF LIME ON THE LAND. f I X Summarising briefly the various actions of lime, we find that it is V i* productive of the following results:— Lime is a plant food in itself. Land dressed with lime cracks less J *;* freely, and it helps to break down stiff clods, so that a tilth is more X easily obtained. It neutralises acidity in the soil, sweetening sour lands. * By encouraging -clover and lucerne it increases the nitrate content of T soils. It opens up clay soils, making them less retentive of water. It <« 7 binds the particles of’light or sandy soils together, making them more *t* X retentive of moisture. It increases the granulation, making the land X work more freely. It sets free unavailable phosphates present in the land. *? Lime helps to lessen grubs, and reduces “finger-and-toe” disease. AMNERS’ LIME. g X (Burnt & Unburnt, suitable for drilling), is a product of certified quality. ♦!» t START USING IT THIS SEASON. WRITE TO YOUR MERCHANT * ?
