RIFLE SHOOTING.
NO. 8A AREA MEETING. TERRITORIALS AND CADETS. The annual rifle-shooting competitions of Area 8A were held on the Rewa Rewa rifle range on Saturday. The conditions were fairly good for shooting, the light being even and the wind not too tricky. The entries were not so numerous as last year, owing to Taranaki now being cut into two areas instead of one, as last year.- New Plymouth. Waitara and Inglewood supplied most of the entries, the country trainees finding it too difficult to get away at this time of the year. The programme comprised five matches for territorials and four each for senior cadets over 17 and under 17 years of age. The territorials fired on the full-sized range, at 200, 300 and 500 yards, the cadets using the 25 yards' range, with .303 rifles for those over 17 and .22 rifles for those under 17. Good shooting was done by C.Q.M.S. W. E. Alexander, of 110 Company (Boys’ High School), who scored a possible of 40, with 9 centres, in the 10 rounds rapid at 25 yards. Sergeant M. Barnett, of 89 Company, New Plymouth Technical College, also shot, well, with 40 and 7 centres, in this match. Cadet Biair, of 110 Company (Boys’ High School), with the good score of 99 out of a possible 100, won the aggregate. The range officers were Captain D. E. Bremner, M.r.. N.Z.S.C.. Lieut. R. C.
