EVADING TAXES.

A WELLINGTON PROSECUTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 4. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, J. S. Munro was charged with having failed to make a return of income to the Income-tax Department since 1915. z Mr. Tudhope, for the Crown, stated that defendant had repeatedly ignored requests from the department, who had come to regard the case as one of persistent and wilful defiance for the purpose of evaling the tax. The case was adjourned for fourteen days to enable defendant to make a return The Magistrate pointed out that the maximum penalty for such offences was £lOO.
