A STARTLING ROBBERY.
MAIL TRAIN HELD UP. TWO ROBBERS SHOT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 5, 5.5 p.m. New York, Nov. 4. St. Louis reports a startling wild west mail train robbery, which resulted in the death of two train robbers and the capture of .a third. The band had a series o-f successful hold-ups to their record. The robbers stopped a train, stuck up the mail clerks, and rifled the registered mail sacks. They detached the locomotime and sped away in it, slowing up at a spot 150 miles from Wittembourg. Missouri, where they jumped off and permitted the engine to run wild. They had an automobile hidden at the spot, but the authorities, who had got wind of the robbers’ plans, hid in a thicket surrounding the motor. Two robbers put .up a fight and were shot dead. The authorities had refrained from sending a special guard with the mail train for fear of frightening the bandits away, but decided to take the chance and guard the spot where the robbers proposed to make their escape. -Aus.-N.Z.
