LIGHTNING STORM.
DAMAGE AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, November 3. Very heavy rain overnight has improved the outlook in the country, but the weather is clearing. During the height of the storm, at 8.30 p.m., an acacia tree in Kent Street, Sydenham, was struck by lightning, the split portions being hurled for 40 yards. Lightning struck a corner of the roof of the residence of Mr. M. J. Bailey, doing minor damage, smashing the gas mantles and scattering articles on the shelves. The current passed along the clothes-line to a workshop, and to Mr. J. A. Hill’s residence, (scorching the joists and leaving a jagged hole in the ground.
