MR. HINE AT TARATA. A correspondent writes: Mr. Hine met with a good reception nt Tarata on Tuesday, when a representative gathering turned out to hear him. Mr. Maurice Standish was in the c'hair, and said that an introduction of the candidate was quite unnecessary, as Mr. Hine had ably represented them \in Parliament for eleven years. Mr. Hine's address was followed with keen interest, and an advocacy of a forward movement by the Government in the direction of financial assistance towards the settlement of mortgages at present protected by the moratorium, met with marked approval. Mr. Hine supports a policy of greater activity in the State Advances Department, and thinks that the Advances Board should come to the assistance of farmers by lending money at a reasonable rate for the pay-ing-off of mortgages which at. present are held at fairly high rates of interest. At the conclusion of his address Mr. R. Patterson proposed a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in Mr. Hine. snd in doing so, stated that Tarata realised that it was essential to retain the present Government in office at this critical time the Dominion was passing through. This was seconded by Mr. Burgess, and carried unanimously. THE STRATFORD SEAT, (Contributed.) Mr. Masters has every reason to be gratified at his meeting at Mahoe on Fhursday night. Eentering tho hall the first thing that met his eye was a large blackboard with “Welcome Bob*’ written on it. A vote of thanks and confidence in Mr. Masters as- member of the district and best wishes for his return to Parliament was moved by Mr. J. McKenzie, seconded by Mr. C. Goddard, and carried unanimously amidst applause. After a very acceptable supper provided by the ladies, a commtitee was formed to further Mr. Masters’ candid-ature, several erstwhile Reform supporters adding to its strength, and electing Mr. M. McMahon to the chair and Mr. C. Oorbishley secretary.
