AUSTRALIAN ROAD RACE. New Zealand has always been renowned for its road-racing cyclists (states the Sydney "Referee”). Two took part in the Warrnam-bool-to-Melbourne event. His prize is £5O cash, and a gold medal and sash. O’Shea was fastest time in the previous IVarmainbool-Melbourne in 1911. so that he is lasting well. O’Shea’s riding time was Shrs. 59min. Ssec. —slow compared with L. Munro's record of 7hrs 12>min 51sec, but there, was a stiff bead wind against the riders on Saturday, while Munro bad the wind In his favor. O’Shea’s time in 1911 was Bhrs Sjnin 44sec. O’Shea, Tom Larcombe (N.S.W.). and J. Carpenter are the only riders to twice score fastest time In the race. According to reports the arrangements at the finishing point on Ascot Racecourse were anything but satisfactory. The. riders were forced to enter the racecourse along a narrow avenue. At one stage the crowd got out of hand, and the officials had to use horses to disperse them. Several riders dashed into the crowd, and there were a few minor accidents.
