MEETING OF COUNCIL SELECTORS APPOINTED. HAWKE CUP CHALLENGES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council, a suggestion that a match. M.C.C. v. a..combined teem representing Ashburton, South Canterbury and North Otago, be played at Temuka, was approved. Messrs. N. C. Sneddon (Auckland), K. H. Tucker (Wellington) and A. Martin (Dunedin) were appointed selectors of New Zealand teams for the present season. Thirteen challenges hare been received for the Hawke Cup, and it was agreed that the Rangitikei and South Taranaki challenges be played this imonth on dates submitted by the holders (Wanganui). Mr. MacLaren said the team's one desire was to play sporting cricket. It had no stone-wallers. Amateur cricket was played with a freer zplrlt than professional, which spoilt many county kames. English opinion said the team was weak in bowling; he thought the bowling was the strongest point. TO-DAY’S MATCHES. The match, Weston Park Wanderers v. High School TIT., set, down for the racecourse No. 3 ground, will be played at Western Park. Owing to the Waitara juniors being unable to gather a team, they have withdrawn from tho competition. This will give the Western Park Rovers a bye for this week, and in the subsequent matches teams drawn to play Waitnra in this grade will have a bye. ’ Western Park seniors, to play High School "A,” at High School grounds: Robertson, Halley, Dinniss, Grayson, Quickfall, Lawrey, Hart, Elliott, Russell, Palmer, Mason. Western Park Wanderers, to plaj’ High School 111., at Western Park, at 2 o’clock: O’Donnell, Oatfley, Hoffmann, Simpson, Bishop, , Scrivener, Beard, Rea, Wright, Ward, Morehead; reserves, Ewart, Way, Haig. MANAIA V. HAWERA. Manala defeated Hawera on Wednesday by 11 wickets. Hawera went In first and scored 129—Sargent 25, Renwick 26, Horton 20, Jones 16. For Manala Maunscll retired when he was I 30and Hobday when he had notched 29.
