TAX TO SUPPORT HOSPITALS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Perth, Nov. 2. The Hospitals Bill introduced in the Assembly provides a tax of Id per £1 cn all bread-winners in the State. It iis expected thereby to raise the annual revenue of £lOO,OOO for the maintenance of the hospitals. CHEAPER SUGAR. 'Sydney, Nov. 2. The reduction in the retail price of sugar to 5d has brought a rush of merchants’ orders to replenish depleted stocks at wholesale values commensurate with the reduction. WARNING TO CHEMISTS. Sydney, Nov. 2. A correspondent of the Herald points out that the training of pharmacists in New Zealand i<s less stringent than in New South Wales, and as a glut is reported in New Zeaand, the latter should be advised that a premium for apprentices is sought for in New South Wales, so surplus pharmacists in the Dominion may understand the position in the event of contemplating a visit. FURTHER MURDER CHARGES. Hobart, November 1. Carpenter, who was arrested in connection with the triple tragedy, was remanded qn a further charge of murdering Thomas Carpenter and George Duncombe. PLAGUE RATS. Brisbane, November 1. Two more plague rats have been found in the city. BOATING TRAGEDY. Sydney, November 1. There is no trace of the five men in a boat who are missing at Kogarah. There is little doubt that the boat was swamped and all were drowned.
