BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

A CALIFORNIAN CONTROVERSY. OVER AUTHORISED VERSION. By Telegraph.—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 2, 11.45 p.m. San Francisco, Nov. 1. On the ground that Protestantism comes under religious sectarianism, which cannot be permitted in schools maintained by the State of California, the Court of Appeal ruled that the King James’ version of the Bible cannot be purchased for use in State schools. The court declared that controversies had been waged for centuries over the authenticity of various translations of the Bible, each sect insisting on its version being the only inspired Book. King James’ version is the Protestant denomination’s version, and objectionable to those not following that faith, thus coming within the meaning of the political code.
