Mcßride has been sentenced to two years’ hard labour, being a year on the first two charges, the sentences to be concurrent, and a year on the last two charges,, the sentences also to be concurrent. PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS. Brisbane, November 1. The full bench of the Arbitration Court refused an application by several unions to delete the preference to returned soldiers’ clause from awards. A SHIPPING DISPUTE Sydney, Nov. 1. Fearing the seamen would carry out their threat not to man the Ormonde, which has been granted permission to carry Cup passengers to Melbourne, the vessel was taken into the stream early in the forenoon to prevent any of the crew deserting. The passengers were conveyed to the steamer by a ferry. The Ormonde sailed in the afternoon without further hitch.
