TEAMS FOR SATURDAY. New Plymouth B v. High School, at Racecourse No. 2: Adlam, E. Coleman. W. L. Hughes, P. Hawkins, M. Hughes, F. Morris. F. Osborne, E. Riding, F. Sheppard, W. N. Stephenson, L. Thomas. Reserves: M. May, J. Clotworthy. New Plymouth A v. Inglewood, at. Inglewood : Inch, Clarke, Sheppard, Nicol. Saunders. Newbold. Lambert, Mackay, Stainton, Hughes, Ferry. GREAT ENGLISH BATSMEN. The following interesting note on recent English cricket is from The Field:—"Anybody who has seen the best batsmen this year and in 1921 must have come to the conclusion that, despite the greatness of Macartney. Hobbs is still a greater master than any of the others. Ho has more strokes, more ways of dealing with a good ball, and a greater skill in his placing. His first Innings against the Gentlemen last week at the Oval was a masterpiece of sound hatting, without any fancy strokes, and it will be remembered that sometimes when in the days before the war be had been dazzling the spectators by the brilHance of his strokes in match after match, he would just play such a aulet innings as he played against the Gentlemen. Whether he Is or is not. the greaest batsman of all time is’ a question which can never be decided, for the very simple reason that there is no standard by which ho can be judged. We do nm know that William Beldham, Fuller Filch. Alfred Mvnn, V. B. Waller, E. M. Grace, w. G. Grace,' K. S. Ranjltslnhii, Tony Hayward. C B. Fry, A. C. MacLaren, W. L. Murdoch, Clement Hill, Victor Trumper, M. A. Noble, F. S Jackson, and other famous men coma do It they were still In their prime, and had to meet modern bowling. We may surmise, but we can do no uuore. It Is enough for any that he la the bfttAttan of hie time.
