PENALTY FOR CRIME.
WELIJNGTON SENTENCES. By TeUgrauli.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Th© following sentences were passed by Mr. Justice Reed at the Supreme Court to-day: Janies Charles McGill Nutt, for theft, received three years’ reformative treatment. Prisoner was a clerk in the Education Department. Mr. Justice Reed said the theft showed deliberation and defalcations had become too common. The sentence must be made a deterrent. Stanley Hinwood McKissick Reid, for breaking and entering and theft, was' placed on probation for three years. Albert George Dalby. for breaking and entering and theft, received 18 months’ reformative treatment. Charles Thomas Stafford, for destroying postal packages, 12 months’ reformative. Alice Kemp, theft, 12 months’ reformative. James Fraser, false pretences, three years’ probation. He was ordered to attend no race meetings. Gerald Ernest Allen, indecent assault, three years’ hard labor.
