FIRE AT CARTERTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Carterton, October 31. A further fire broke out at 10 o’clock last night in old but unoccupied premise® in South Carterton, formerly known as Fairbrother’s Store. It wasa large two-storied building with a smaller building detached at the rear. Both premises were used as a store for second-hand furniture, including four billiard tables. The fire (broke out in the smaller building, which was completely demolished, together with the contents. The larger building caught fire, but the brigade made a good save. The large building was insured for £3OO and the small building at £75 in the State Office. The contents were insured for £2OO in the Victoria. Office. CHARGE OF EMBEZZLEMENT. Auckland, October 31. In the Police Court, W. F. F. Raisher, aged 60, formerly clerk to the Helensville Town Board, was remanded on a charge of embezzlement. His defalcations are stated to be £l3OO.
