CORRESPONDENCE.

COUNTY EMPLOYEES AND VICTIMISATION.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In the News of the 26th inst., I was glad to see where Ratepayer took up the cudgels on behalf of the count}' employees. I agree with him when he asks, why don’t the employees get. a chance to give their side of the question when there is trouble? There was a case in the Egimont. County some time ago, where an employee with over 3 years’ good service in his favor, a man that could work any of the machinery belonging to the county, except tlir* traction engine, and was always ready to take a shovel when needed, and do his bit. Now, can Chairman O’Brien, or any of the councillors tell the ratepayers why this man (with a family of 4 or 5 children depending on him) was put off on the excuse that they were slacking hands, and two single men put on two days after? I

think it is a disgrace to any body of men to treat a man the way Bills man was treated. ]f they had anything against him, why did they not tell him so, and give him a chance to refute It? When he was put off he was Undet the lunpression that he would be put on again the first opportunity that occurred. But. no; there have been different men put on since. He Is never thought of. I will now ask the chairman and councillora to talk this matter over at their next meeting. and put this man back on his job, or give him a reason for not doing so. By doing so they will earn the respect of a good few ratepayers In the “OEO RIDING.” Oeo, October 28.
