TO-DAY’S DOLL. The mooting of ratepayers on Monday night to discuss matters connected wiili the proposal to raise a loan- of £3OOO • for electrical purposes, about which a poll is being taken to-day, though not very numerously attended was "thoroughly representative. Mr Sutherland (the Mayor), who presided, explained the position. On the motion of Messrs J. W. Winfield and S. R. Darlow a resolution’ that, the meeting support the Council s action was carried unanimously. The Mayor then expla’ncd the work ■ng and meaning of “rating on unimproved values,” the subject of the other poll to he taken to-day. Mr. .1. Gibbs spoke in favor of the cliange, nointing out how unequally the rates at'present bore on the holders of property in the borough. ' Mr .1. W. Winfield spoke in opposition to a change in the way proposed, expressing a contrary opinion to previous speakers. The matter was left to the ratepayers.
