ATHLETICS.

MANAIA CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTS. A meeting of the executive of the Taranaki centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union was held at Kaponga. on Thursday night, Mr. A. J. Hansen being in the chair, when the matter of allotting the championship sports for New Zealand was discussed. Applications were received from throe clubs for the right to run the championship. It was finaUy allotted to the Manaia Hibernian Sports Chili. Correspondence was received re one Doman, who competed at Kaimata sports. It was decided to enquire into his performance. The Manaia Hibernian Sports Club are to be heartily congratulated in taking on the New Zealand championship sports. It will mean two successive days’ sports. Competitors will be present from all parts of New Zealand, both in running, cycling and jumping events, etc.—Star.
