COLLISION AT SEA.
EXCESSIVE SPEED IN FOG. RULING BY THE CVURT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 29, 5.5 p.m. London. Oct. 27. In the Admiralty Court, Mr. Justice Hill gave judgment in an action in which the Court was asked by the owners of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Remuera, and the Ellerman liner Marpengo, which collided in the Engusn Channel recently, to determine which ship was responsible for the collision. He said the ships sighted each other at such close range that a collision was inevitable. Both were proceeding at an excessive speed, considering the fog. Inasmuch as the Marengo improperly altered her course on hearing the Remuera’s whistle, but before the Remuera was sighted, he held the Marengo was responsible in the proportion of twothirds and the Remuera one-third.— Aus/N.Z.
