TWO SMUGGDERS FINED. By Telegraph.—Press jkssocistion. Wellington, Oct. 28. Albert Thurlow, chief steward on the steamer Las Vegas, wae charged to-day with smuggling 17 pairs of ladies’ bootd and shoes and two pairs of stockings; Harry Edward Callaghan, pantryman on the Las Vegas, was charged with attempting to smuggle 8400 cigarettes. Both pleaded guilty, but stated that there was no intention to smuggle, as they were taking the goods to friends and relations. Mr. Page, S.M., impoaed a formal fine of £lOO in each case, and reduced it to £25.
