LAWN TENNIS.
PLAY IN NEW PLYMOUTH. NEW CLUB FORMED. The proposal to provide tennis courts for the East End of the town reached finality at. a meeting held on Saturday evening, and it is expected that two asphalt courts will be available for playing on before Christmas, the site chosen being near the new croquet lawns at Te Henui. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) presided over a well-attended meeting, and, after the proposal had been submitted, it was decided that a club, to be known as the Autere Tennis Club, be formed. A temporary committee, consisting of Messrs. D. George, E. Beatty, L. Sole, J. Austin, G. Boon, and A. R. Davis (secretary), was set up to deal with the lease, obtain an estimate of the cost of the courts, and to deal with the question of finance. This report will he submitted to a meeting to be held in a week’s time. The Mayor explained that the scheme provided for two asphalt courts being laid down immediately, whilst preparations would also be made for two grass courts.
