The second day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting was) favored by good weather and a large attendance, the go. being feood. CARTERTON MEETING. FESTIVITY WINS THE CUP. Carterton, Last Night. The Carterton-Tarataht races were run on Saturday in beautiful weather, there being a large attendance. The racing was excellent and the finishes exciting in several races. The winner of the cup was decorated with the blue ribbon. The totalisator handled £15,166, being £2757 less than last. year. Ten starters. Won by two lengths. Time, 2mln. 44sec. A MISNAMED RACEHORSE. London, Oct. 27. The racehorse Control, whose bad temper caused it to be left at the post in the Cannbrldgeshlre Stakes, has been shot. His trainer persuaded Control’s weeping owner, the Dowager Marchioness of Queensberry, that the horse had better be destroyed. Control cost a lot of money and developed a temper later. BETTING BY CHEQUE. London, Oct. 27. In the cheque betting case, Mr. Justice McCardie ruled that the recent Gaming Amendment Act did not prevent actions taken prior to Its passage being proceeded with. Mr. Justice McCardie’s decision differs from two judgments given to the contrary. Steps are being taken to appeal against today’s’ decision.
