OVERCROWDING THEATRES.
(To the Editor). Sir,—l see that the Borough Council inspector is having some trouble with the patrons of picture theatres and public entertalnmertGh when the house is full. Now I have not been long a resident of this town, but one of the first things that struck me was the method that the inspector has of seeing that theatres and halls are not overcrowded. It does seem a ridiculous method for the inspector to stand at the entrance and stop people from going in. In most towns I have been in the lessee of the theatre, or whoever has the building ehgaged for the time being, Is responsible for seeing that the building is not overcrowded, and no more tickets are issued after the house is full, and a notice posted to that effect. When I first caune into this town I had a brush with Mr Day at Everybody’s Pictures. The house was full, and Mr Day was stopping patrons from going to the ticket office. I not knowing Mr Day, who wore no badge or uniform, walked up the entrance to Everybody’s, and was stopped by Mr Day, who threatened to call a policeman if I did not go back on to the footpath I Now, if I had been permitted to ask at. the ticket box for a ticket and been told that the house was full f would not have pressed the point, and there would have been no argument. I have been in other towns besides this one and have never seen the inspector acting the policeman outside any public (meeting or entertainment. I am, etc., PUBLIC HALL. New Plymouth, October 26.
