THE HEAR EAST.
DISLOCATION OF FINANCE
GRAVE TURKISH THREAT. PROTEST BY THE POWERS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 26, 11.5 p.m. Constantinople, Oct. 25. Hamid Bey, the representative of the Angora Government, warned all banks that Angora would not recognise payments made on account of the Constantinople Government.
The High Commissioners specially met to consider the serious effects of the threat. They pointed out that Government officials had not received salaries fbr seven months.
Subsequently the Allied High Commissioners handed a note to Hamid Bey* pointing out that the threatened meassure would bring starvation to widows and children and other Government pensioners and put an end to services and public order and lead to anarchy. Therefore the Powers ordered the banks to carry on as heretofore, and declared they were unable to admit the contention of the Angora Government in that connection.—Reuter Service.
